The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) released the results of its first ever e-Reverse Auction for production and supply of green ammonia in India on 29th July 2025. Pursuant to the Strategic Interventions For Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme, mode 2A which provides financial incentives to boost green ammonia production, SECI had issued a tender for Tranche – I of the scheme in June 2024. This tender sought applications from developers for the production and supply of 75,000 metric tonnes (MT) per annum of green ammonia to Odisha’s Paradip Phosphates Limited. ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited won the competitive bid, quoting the price of INR 55.75 / Kg of green ammonia which sets a historically low price threshold.
This marks the first of the 13 planned auctions from SECI which is the nodal implementing authority for procurement of 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually for 13 fertilizer plants. Cumulatively, INR 15.3 billion has been assigned under the SIGHT incentives for this project. ACME has secured the tender for a period of 10 years. This effectively means India is now ready to produce green ammonia for as low as INR 55.75/ Kg ($641/MT) for at least the next decade. This price bracket is substantially lower than the earlier price discovery of $ 1,153/MT in the H2 Global Auction in July, 2024. This new price discovery catapults India into a potential leadership position with regards to green ammonia production and when compared against the rising price of ammonia derived from fossil fuels (currently estimated at $ 515/MT), sends strong economic signals to global investors and developers for focusing on India in their energy transition journeys.
Speaking on the occasion of their win, Arnava Sinha, EVP and Head of BD, ACME said,
“This is a proud moment for the ACME Group. We are thankful and we congratulate MNRE & SECI for creating a conducive environment for green ammonia market creation. The price level achieved in this auction can primarily be attributed to ACME's realization of the lowest Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH), made possible through robust supportive structures established by both central and state governments. With this historic first, we are confident we will see large-scale adoption of green ammonia in an expedited manner in the country.”
Indeed, ACME’s historic tariff discovery paves the path for offtake assurances for green hydrogen derivatives and helps in building confidence in the green hydrogen value chain. GH2 India congratulates ACME for this landmark feat!
