Adani Energy Solutions to Build ₹8,500 Crore Power Link for Andhra Pradesh's Green Hydrogen Hub
Adani Energy Solutions (AESL), India's largest private transmission company, will build a ₹8,500 crore power network in Andhra Pradesh, and this one comes with a twist—it's not just another grid upgrade; it's the infrastructure that will decide whether the country's green hydrogen ambitions near Vizag actually get off the ground.
The company came out on top in a competitive bidding process run by the government for the transmission system supporting the green hydrogen and green ammonia projects planned in the Vizag area. It's being designed to handle around 4,500 MW of demand, which gives a sense of just how much power-hungry industry is expected to land in this corner of Andhra Pradesh in the coming years.
The Pendurthi–Vizag belt has quietly become a hotspot for data centres and digital infrastructure, and those facilities are just as power-hungry as any industrial plant. So, this transmission network isn't being built for one customer—it's meant to support two very different, very demanding kinds of growth happening in the same place at the same time.
AESL is routing the project through Vizag Power Transmission Ltd., a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) acquired by Adani Energy Solutions Limited. The plan calls for two major substations—one at Pendurthi and another at Khammam—connected by around 1,582 km of new transmission lines. It's a big build, and the company has committed to getting it done in 30 months.
Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL, highlighted that the project would support green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity in the state while also strengthening the grid for the digital infrastructure boom happening alongside it. As India moves toward a cleaner, more tech-driven economy, it is important to build this kind of infrastructure to ensure seamless power transmission.
The success of green hydrogen in India will rely not just on electrolysers and offtake agreements, but on whether the grid can deliver reliable, high-capacity power to wherever the plants end up. Vizag is shaping up to be a real test case: green hydrogen production, green ammonia production, hyperscale data centres, and industrial growth all converging in one region, all needing power at the same time. Get the grid wrong, and none of it works.
This win also adds to a broader trend. AESL's transmission project pipeline has now crossed ₹80,000 crore, and wins like this are becoming a regular feature of the company's growth story. For a sector like green hydrogen, which depends heavily on infrastructure that most people never think about, that's a trend worth watching.
