Brussels, 20 May 2026 [EA|C1.1] – CertifHy and GH2 India have announced a strategic partnership to strengthen hydrogen certification readiness in India and support Indian stakeholders preparing to access the European Union market for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) molecules.
The collaboration will initially focus on promoting CertifHy Academy’s RFNBO certification training programs in India and will gradually evolve into a broader knowledge-sharing initiative supporting India’s renewable hydrogen and e-fuels ecosystem.
Under the partnership, GH2 India will distribute CertifHy’s RFNBO certification training to Indian market participants, while CertifHy will provide the training content through its existing e-learning platform. Both organizations also plan to jointly develop India-focused guidance materials and knowledge-sharing activities to help project developers and industry stakeholders better understand EU RFNBO certification requirements, audit procedures, documentation expectations, and sustainability criteria.
India is rapidly emerging as a major global hub for renewable hydrogen development, supported by strong renewable energy capacity, industrial demand, and policy initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission. As global demand for renewable hydrogen and e-fuels increases, certification is becoming an essential factor for project readiness, investor confidence, and export market access.
Producers seeking to supply RFNBO molecules to the European Union must comply with strict sustainability and traceability requirements, including renewable electricity sourcing, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, and independent verification processes. The partnership between CertifHy and GH2 India aims to help Indian stakeholders better understand these evolving frameworks and prepare for future international trade opportunities.
Founded in 2014, CertifHy is a leading organization in renewable and low-carbon hydrogen certification. It operates the CertifHy EU RFNBO Voluntary Scheme and the CertifHy Non-Governmental Certification (NGC) Scheme, while also supporting market development through CertifHy Academy and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
Through this collaboration, Indian project developers, investors, and industry participants will gain access to practical learning resources covering RFNBO certification frameworks, sustainability requirements, data collection and documentation, audit readiness, traceability systems, and international market expectations. The organizations also intend to explore workshops, Q&A sessions, and India-focused guidance resources to support stakeholders preparing projects for global markets.
Commenting on the partnership, Matthieu Boisson, Managing Director at CertifHy, said:
“India is rapidly becoming a global powerhouse for renewable hydrogen and e-fuels development, and certification will be essential for project readiness. This collaboration starts with knowledge, but the ambition is broader: to work with GH2 India and Indian industry to build a fit-for-purpose framework that will help Indian stakeholders achieve EU certification when they need it the most.”
Nishaanth Balashanmugam, CEO and Director of GH2 India, added:
“India’s hydrogen export ambitions rest on robust certification mechanisms and deep understanding of global frameworks. By working with CertifHy, we aim to support the Indian ecosystem with the right knowledge and tools to ensure long-term trust and sustainability in these projects.”
