The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), together with the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), is supporting the implementation of projects for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives outside of Europe under a funding guideline. The BMWE has now published a second call for funding . German companies can submit outlines for their projects by December 18, 2025.
The funding guidelines for international hydrogen projects support the development of a global market for renewable hydrogen and consist of two modules. The BMWE funding is provided in Module 1 and focuses on the construction of industrial production plants for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as accompanying research projects ( e.g., feasibility studies). The BMWE thus supports the use of German hydrogen technologies abroad and aims to prepare and implement import routes to Germany.
With this funding guideline, the BMWE is specifically strengthening German expertise in hydrogen technologies in an international context. The focus is primarily on German SMEs – technology suppliers and project developers – in testing innovative international projects and establishing new markets. Funding up to €30 million per project is possible. Funding is subject to budgetary constraints until the 2026 budget comes into effect.
On October 13, 2025, interested companies will have the opportunity to learn about the funding guidelines and corresponding funding opportunities and to ask questions at an information event.
