GH2 India marked a significant presence at the World Hydrogen Asia 2025 conference, held in Tokyo and organized by World Hydrogen Leaders, a division of S&P Global Commodity Insights. Representing India’s fast-evolving green hydrogen ecosystem, GH2 India CEO Mr. Nishaanth Balashanmugam spoke at two high-level panels alongside esteemed global leaders, including Yoshinori Negishi, Hisanori Nei, Hirofumi Sano, and Mr. Taisuke Horimi.
GH2 India was joined by major member companies — ACME Group, AM Green Group, and TrueRE - Oriana Power Ltd — engaging in impactful dialogues with government bodies, industry leaders, and civil society stakeholders. These discussions highlighted India’s growing influence in the global green hydrogen economy and its strategic intent to lead in clean energy production and innovation.
Key Highlights Presented-
1) The Government of India's ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has catalysed an unprecedented investment pipeline exceeding USD 180 billion.
2) India announced an annual production capacity of over 8 million metric tons (MMT) of green hydrogen. However, significant challenges remain, and demand is the biggest hurdle to unlock the sector.
3) Announced electrolyser manufacturing capabilities are projected to reach approximately 19 GW, positioning India as a global manufacturing hub.
4) Nishaanth also spotlighted progressive state-level policies and targeted initiatives from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (India), driving significant momentum in the green hydrogen sector. The waivers and subsidies from regional governments in India total over $60 billion.
5) There was an emphasis on the importance of collaboration between India and East Asian economies, particularly Japan and South Korea, which are actively pursuing industrial decarbonization and enhanced energy security. India reaffirmed its readiness to serve as a reliable partner by supplying sustainable, competitively priced clean molecules, helping diversify and strengthen the region’s energy supply chains.
The Ministry of External Affairs, India, is seeking to organise an India-ASEAN workshop on green hydrogen. Please write to us at team@gh2.org.in to register your interest.
We continue to lead and foster international partnerships essential for building a resilient, interconnected, and sustainable global hydrogen economy.
